As an entrepreneur, you have one of the most unique jobs in the world. It’s a tough job to be sure - not everyone can do it - but it’s one that comes with plenty of perks.
1. You Call the Shots
As an entrepreneur, you are the one leading the charge of the business and, ultimately, taking charge of your own life. You decide exactly where the business will go, who your customer base will be, and what mission your company represents.
Pop open the champagne and celebrate - you did it! You have done what millions have dreamed of and escaped the 9 to 5 life. You couldn’t have picked a better time to do it, either. The world is feeling smaller than ever before, with technology and the internet driving every industry. You can effectively run your business from anywhere in the world, whether that is the couch in your apartment or the beach in Bali. It’s all ultimately up to you.
This one is a no-brainer. The truth is, not everyone is designed to work between the hours of 9 and 5. Some of us are at our best when the sun is just starting to rise. Others become most productive late at night. As an entrepreneur, you tailor your schedule to fit your needs.
When you’re not working the same hours as most people, there is also a certain flexibility in day to day life. Want to have lunch with a friend or drop in on your parents? No problem. Mid-day grocery run? Easy. Simply by not being tied to a desk all day, you will have the ability to make the best schedule for you and the lifestyle you want to lead.
4. Do What You Love
As Steve Jobs once said, “People with passion can change the world for the better.” Creating your own business from the ground up gives you the ability to turn your hobbies into a career. Now that is success!
5. You Make the Rules
No dress code? Not unless you say so. Bring your dog to work day? Why not! When it comes to the little rules that most business industry professionals are obliged to follow, you make your own decisions.
6. Leave a Legacy
The brand that you are creating could very well outlive you. Pause and think about that for a moment. What you are focusing on today could continue to have a positive impact on the world for a long time after you’re gone. The thought is an inspiring one.
7. Make an Impact
" I could either watch it happen or be a part of it,” said Elon Musk on his contributions to technology. The same is true of you: the product that you are creating could have a lasting impact on its industry, possibly even affecting other industries for years to come. This company is your contribution, and could very well change the way that we live our daily lives in the future.
8. Being a Leader
This can be a tough aspect of the job, but arguably the most rewarding part. When you are an entrepreneur, people look up to you, and it’s your responsibility to make sure that you are leading the team (maybe even the industry) well. Knowing that you’re setting a good example for those following you can be the best feeling in the world.
9. Having a Creative Outlet
Entrepreneurs are by nature creative. You have a unique way of looking at the world and, because of this, there’s a good chance that your business has stemmed from your passions. So consider your entrepreneurial role permission to run wild with your creativity. The possibilities are endless!
10. Never a Dull Moment
The great thing about business - any business - is that it’s constantly changing. Because of that, there’s a good chance that your entrepreneurial job keeps you on your toes. For those of us who thrive on unpredictability, and whose nightmares include doing the same repetitive thing day in and day out, the thrill of running a business is a dream.
11. Unlimited Income
Consider this: there is no limit to the amount of money that your company could make. With no cap on potential business income, there is also no cap on your potential income. Since you are not an employee for an employer, you choose your pay based on your business. Or, if you have set a salary for yourself, the only person who you need to speak to about a raise is, well, you.
12. Personal Growth
Entering into the unknown and growing your own business can be a life-changing experience. As you navigate the murky waters of undiscovered business, there is so much to learn about yourself. It’s impossible not to grow as a person.
13. Problem Solving
The best thing about being the boss is that when an issue arises, you resolve it the way that you want to, without asking permission from anybody. Not only does this lead to a lifetime of learning, but for those of us who can be a little bit of a perfectionist, it means that the job gets done well.
14. Meeting Amazing People
No matter what industry you are in, simply being an entrepreneur will give you the chance to meet incredible and influential people from all walks of life.
15. Give Back
Entrepreneurial superstar Oprah Winfrey has said, “To move forward, you have to give back.” Being an entrepreneur gives you the opportunity to give back in a way that you wouldn’t otherwise have. You have a platform - an entire business - to spread awareness and support causes that you believe in.
Nobody said that being an entrepreneur was easy. Some days, it can be more challenging than you’d expect. But there are so many reasons why owning your own business is so worth it.
